Sandra White: Tea Party In Port Townsend

Tea Party In Port Townsend

There is one coming...this tiny little town has it's share of opinionated folks, and I don't know if I will be there, but I know this country is spending itself into oblivion.  I am glad there are some people who have the will and the time to let our government know when they are going in the wrong direction.  We cannot keep up the entitlements we have created and continue to have a thriving economy.

What's going on in your town tomorrow?

I have been reading about these things all over the place. Very interesting. Very interesting, indeed... :-)

I doubt that "all the tea in China" could put a halt to the free-spending federal government.

Hi Tom,

You are probably right but it makes you feel bettr to let them know how what you think about it.  If all of us contact them, it could make a difference.  Its up to us.

What are you protesting? The top tax rate will be raised from 36% to 39% (still lower than it was under reagan)? While at the same time the tax rate for the rest of us (95% of the population) will be lowered for the first time in 15 years, just in time to help those losing their jobs and homes because of the disastrous policies of the bush administration (2000-2008) and republican-controlled congress (1994-2008).

The last president spent billions of dollars and thousands of lives fighting a stupid war against a nation that had nothing to do with the attacks of september 11th. Do you know that the bush administration refused to include the cost of the war in the budgets they submitted for rubber stamping to the republican congress. They preferred to pay for the war using suplementals, hiding the real cost. President Obama's budget looks larger than Bushs', but that is only because he includes the real cost of the war in it and doesn't attempt to fudge the numbers. At least President Obama is committed to investing the borrowed money in this country.

The Boston Tea Party was a protest by colonists against King George and the British Parliament who raised taxes without any consultation/representation with the affected persons. How does this compare? We have representation in the form of state and federal congress and a president elected by a majority of the people. I'm sorry you don't agree with the ruling party's policies; you have every right to express your opinion and vote for their opponents next time elections are held. I'm not sure fomenting outright rebellion is the best way to behave in a representative democracy.

We spent the past eight years waiting for this moment, pardon us while we take full advantage of our victory. Call it a mandate.

Enjoy your tea party...

Thank you for your comment, but the issue is about our economy and our freedom.   Raising taxes on small business makes them less profitable and stifles  job creation.  70-75% of all jobs in this country are created by small business.  Government does not create jobs.  In my opinion one of the governments few  functions is to defend our country.  Not run all of our companies and take over health care, etc.

To answer your question we are protesting rediculous spending and wasteful spending.  This cannot be sustained and something has to give.  If we create more money, we will see horrible inflation.

I do not call this a mandate.  Almost 50% of the population did not vote for Obama.

Sandra- I attended my local tea party and we had a great turn out.  I think what most people like the above commenter do no understand is we are not protesting against any political party, we are protesting wasteful spending and government interfering with free enterprise and bailouts.  I agree with you it's not a mandate and I don't care what political affiliation a congressman or senator is they don't have the right to waste our tax dollars on removing tattoos or studying the bad cow manure smell.  That's ridiculous.

Thank you!  I have recently found the group of the  Active Rain/ Silent Majority and love it.  I am not good at giving people lectures on the economy, as it seems to me if you really got it, you would have to be a conservative.  I find the liberals in my community are very hateful and agressively against the conservatives with rude remarks, etc. and they do not want to hear any facts.

Check out my new blog with photos of our local tea party.
