Guardian Angels for Soldiers Pets

Ever think about what happens to a soldiers pet if he or she is called to active duty in a foreign country?

I just read in a small local publication called the Port Ludlow Voice, about a program to foster pets of soldiers who are being deployed, or have an emergency situation.  This is done through the Military Pet Assistance Program to arrange foster care for the pet, with the plan to reunite them upon the soldier's return home.

It is called the " Guardian Angels for Soldiers Pets."  Applicants are carefully screened to make sure they will provide a safe and loving home and a secure environment.  For more information you can go to

guardianangelsforsoldierspet.org, or call for information: 501-325-1591

This breaks my heart to think of pets being left behind! So glad that someone has thought of doing this. Good job!

Lise, good thing to know about in case you need a dog or 2 around the house.  Mine is already full with 2 Shit Zhus with lots of attitude.  So good to hear of people willing to help out.  Thanks for reading my post.

Oh my, I never even thought about this, and I should have. My new son in law is about to deploy so my daughter is moving back in with me and she's bringing her dog and cat. That will make three dogs and a cat at my house for at least the next year. I know not everyone has the luxury of moving their pets to MOM's house so thank you for spreading the word about something that would really help to support our troops!

Bobbi, I know, I hadn't thought about it myself until I read the article in our little local publication, telling about a Port Ludlow couple who have taken in a soldiers 2 dogs.  Sounds like you are doing your part in a big way!  Thanks for reading my blog.  I was just looking for another AR group that is about pets.  Do you know of any more?

Sandra, unfortunately many of those pets end up at the shelter.  THAT is unacceptable.  Thanks for posting the link.  I will make sure to check them out and see if they are active in my area.  I have 6 cats and one dog, but can make room for at least one more!

This sounds like an excellent program!  Pets seem to end up being the last thought on so many fronts, so it's refreshing to see a place like this to help those who are helping us.

Thanks for making us aware of this issue, Sandra.  I never even thought of this possibility what might happen to the pet of serviceman/woman called away on duty.

Sharon, I hadn't really thought of it either.  I have thought often of our service men and women and how their lives are uprooted, but thinking mostly about the children and assume they have family that would step in.  Thanks for reading.
