Sandra White: Port Townsend's Interesting Real Estate

Port Townsend's Interesting Real Estate

This may be the smalleimage of Port Townsend Elevatorst commercial rental you have ever seen.  It is located in Downtown Port Townsend right on the main street, Water Street.

This little space has an interesting history, and at one time was the home of our wonderful ice cream store, still know as the ElevatedThe Elevated got it's name from the small elevator shown in the photo where the ice cream was sold out of the small window.

Today, the Elevated Ice Cream store is located across the street and has grown to a large shop with tables and chairs, a small candy store, and long lines of customers during the warmer season.   The ice cream is still home made and hand packed, and is the best!  There are usually over 35 flavors using fresh fruits grown locally, and Italian ices.

Can you think of a smart new business to locate in the old elevator?  The rent should be affordable.

Hey Sandra, how about selling postcards, bouquets, local sweets, souvenir-style maps showing all the sweet historical places in town, DVDs of the area, kids coloring books of the local sea creatures; give Port Townsend a bit of European style on the street.

Sherry, what great ideas.  Nice to hear from a neighbor.  Thanks for reading my post.

Hi, Sandra. When I lived in Maine, we used to eat at a Chinese restaurant in Portland called "Hu Shang." When the building was renovated, they found an elevator cage, one of those old filigree ones that look like a birdcage, and used it as a private supper room. They didn't take reservations for dinner, except for "the elevator." We always booked well in advance because it was such a special evening tohave a wonderful dinner in such a cute and quiant setting.

This little building reminds me of that. It's WONDERFUL and I hope someone comes up with a clever use for it...if so, keep us posted (so to speak).
